What To Do While You are Visiting

Make the most of your PTC weekend in Burlington! The city offers a wonderful mix of live music, art, outdoor adventures, local shopping, and excellent food and drink—all within easy reach of Hotel Champlain. We’ve gathered some of our favorite ways to spend your free time, along with a few events happening around PTC weekend. MUSIC

PTC weekend falls during a particularly exciting time for music in Vermont. From intimate performances to major outdoor festivals, there are several opportunities to catch live music while you’re in town.

ART

Burlington has a vibrant arts scene, with public art, galleries, exhibitions, and creative events throughout the city.

Explore Public Art in Burlington for a self-guided look at some of the city’s outdoor artwork. If you’re arriving early, consider Art Hop, September 11–13, a weekend celebration of art, music, food, and local creativity along Pine Street.

HIKING, BIKING, & WATER

Vermont’s natural beauty is one of the best reasons to extend your visit. Take a walk along Lake Champlain, explore the area by bike, or venture out for a hike with spectacular views.

  • AllTrails — Find local hikes ranging from easy walks to more challenging trails. Most destinations outside Burlington require a rental car.

  • Mount Philo State Park — Drive or hike to the summit for beautiful views overlooking Lake Champlain and the Adirondacks.

  • Burlington Bike Path — A scenic waterfront path that is easily accessible from downtown.

  • Island Line Trail — Continue along the lake by bike via the Bike Ferry to South Hero.

  • Spirit of Ethan Allen Cruise — Enjoy a scenic cruise on Lake Champlain aboard Burlington’s classic sightseeing boat.

SHOPPING & LOCAL FAVORITES

Downtown Burlington is an easy place to spend an afternoon browsing shops, galleries, bookstores, and Vermont-made goods. Church Street Marketplace, the city’s pedestrian-friendly shopping district, is a great place to start.

A few local favorites include:

FOOD & SPIRITS

Burlington has an impressive food and drink scene, from local breweries and cideries to excellent independent restaurants. The majority of the recommendations below are walkable from Hotel Champlain, making it easy to enjoy a meal or drink without venturing far from the meeting.

This list is not exhaustive, but it’s a great place to start planning your free time. Reservations are recommended for many of the downtown restaurants, particularly during PTC weekend.

Breweries

Most Burlington breweries also serve food, making them an easy option for a casual lunch, dinner, or evening drink.

And don’t leave Vermont without trying a creemee—the Vermont name for soft-serve ice cream. We recommend the maple!
